| The Knights of Siena was founded at Siena College in 1986, on the idea of the chivlarous knight. One of our founders, Roger Ziomkowski, defined competitive fencers as the modern day knights . The Knights of old were brave warriors who were able to bear arms to defend the weak and defenseless. Much in the same way that the only people running around with swords today are competitive fencers (try explaining to the airline that you have swords in your luggage). The original group of Siena's 17 fencers developed the vision of what is the Knights of Siena is today. Our adult fencers are considered "descendants" of those first Knights of Siena. They are the founding force of our schools and without them we would lose the very heart of what has become the largest fencing school in the United States today. Roger if you are ever reading this, I still have the first book of Siena Knights. FARTIM FACERE EX HOSTIBUS Founding Members of Siena Knights |
