| Well, the end to another JO qualifies here at Knights of Siena and well it is the best one yet. Going into this event we had 5 people pre-qualified for the Junior Olympics because of national results. That in itself was impressive, however this year we had one other goal. To win every event that we entered, and we entered them all. It would also be tough because we had not one referee at the event. Our fencers would have to make all their adjustments on the strip on game day. Their training told them that this could be done, now to see if they could apply the lessons learned. Our goal would mean that we would have to win 12 gold medals! This would also be the first season in which there would be not one horseman at the qualifier. This would mean no mistakes. Could this new crop live up the legend of those before them. The field in a couple of the junior events were going to have to be upsets. The men's junior epee event had a B rated fencer from Clemen while our strongest was an E rated fencer. Steven Flemings came from nowhere as an unrated fencer and one the the entire event (I think maybe he will be an E). Next would be the foil event, this event would have some seasoned foil fencers vs. our new foil program. Gabe Green would win the day, two down and only 10 to go. The next event would be sabre and Fry would defeat Gabe to make the today for the men at 3 the women would match and make the day total 6. Day two would be a shoe in except for a late mail in entry from Zeb V. The match would for the gold and it would be Hunter Yeaton who would have the fate of our lofty goal resting on his shoulders. He would behind 14 to 12 in the final three minute period. He would display amazing grace and skill and come back to win 15-14. We believe that many great things are in store for Hunter. Overall of the possible 36 available slots Knights of Siena took 31! That is almost unheard of in any division. As we look toward the JO's in February we can only hope that the same training program that has brought us this success will continue. FARTIM FACERE EX HOSTIBUS |
