team flew down.  Kevin made the top 32 and benefit from the repecharge that is
being used this season to defeat Jones from Sacramento earning him the 22
spot.  He is now pre-qualified for nationals.  MIke has now won his first national
medal, funny he laughed when he realized it was in foil.  He was the low man
making it into the final 8.  I guess our foil program is working well this season so
far.  Warren had a strong day in the sabre and now has a better understanding
of why we train the way that we do.  Karen had a great time with women's epee
and a disappointing day with the sabre event.  She did us all proud and came
back after her injury to not only finish the pool but went on to fence her direct
elimination bout when a person with "lesser" character would have just thrown in
the towel.  Great job Karen.  Gabe went through all three weapons this weekend
and saw fencing through a different level and will be coming back to train with a
vengence.  Finally, this was the first "big" event for Matt.  I believe that now that
he has been to the "mountain" he will be even a great asset to our mission to
train and recruit the 1000
To say that the trip was a walk down memory lane would be an understatement.
With all the people that were there from the three areas of fencing that I have
opened schools to then see a lot of these people where it all started was pretty
amazing.  The venue and the staff were top notch and seeing old friends is
always worth the time and money to go.  Seeing John from Canada was
amazing.  We shared many laughs about the old days of going back and forth to
the tournaments in Canada and the stories of Vidosa.  I was nice to here about
his send off.  It was truly how he would have wanted to be remembered.
Running into the Abbonanzo brothers was a real surprise.  I wish them all the
luck with the ziptip.  I think that they have a winner product.  Let's see what else
they come up with.
