Wow, it was an awesome weekend for us.  This would be the first sectionals that we would be attending without any of the four horsemen.  These guys have been a driving force for the last 5 years at our school.  This would be the first year that they would not be there at sectionals.  Furthermore the Angels have all gone so the women have had to look for new leadership also.  I am happy to report that new leaders have emerged and the future is looking very strong. We took 14 top eight spots at sectionals, in ALL THREE WEAPONS!!!  There are many stories of upsets this weekend.  Two that stand out the most would be Eli Zipkin winning the junior sabre event (still a cadet) against a very powerful Allen Schnieder.  Allen had won the open sabre the day before and earned his A08.  Eli’s win earned him his B08!  Sabre championships at a sectional level have been a very hotly contested event.  Nate had his deflector shields at full strength his weekend at he made the top 8 in junior epee by defeating the number 1 and number 6 seed to make the eight and earn his D08 it would have been a C but they only had one A make the finals the other two lost in the 16.   Some very interesting notables were not in the final eight. We also had some of our fencers step up and demonstrate great leadership after some setbacks this weekend.  Karen, who was not hired to ref, decided that she would help coach and cheer on the team this weekend and got mentioned by Gabe, in his final eight bio.  She also was a huge asset explaining and coaching Eli on referee calls that lead his path to the final match with Allen.   Fry also had a rough day and was instrumental in helping Eli watch for aspects of Allen’s sabre game, because of Fry fencing him at the JO’s. Overall we came together as team and I believe we had the highest number of top 8 result of any one club in the section.  Now the real training begins!  Look out San Jose!!!!!!
